How Much Does a Tradie Website Cost in Australia? (2026)

A tradie website in Australia costs anywhere from $0 to $10,000 or more, depending on who builds it and how much you want handled for you. Most tradies around Melbourne pay somewhere between $1,500 and $3,500 for a one-off build, then pay again for hosting, updates and every edit.

There is another way. A managed site for a flat $150 a month, nothing up front, everything included. Below is what each option really costs, and the one trap that catches most tradies.

The four ways to get a tradie website

There are four ways to get a website as a tradie. Each has its place. Here is the honest version of each, warts and all.

  • Do it yourself (website builders). Wix or Squarespace will let you build a site for next to nothing up front. But the catch is you are paying with your time. You'll need to spend your evenings and weekends getting the site up and running, and then maintaining it.
  • Hire a freelancer. You pay a one-off fee and get a custom site. Quality is a lottery. Some are great, some hand you a mess and go quiet. The real issue is what happens after handover. Want a new number or fresh job photos? You're almost certainly going to be charged for it.
  • Use an agency. Agencies build polished sites. They also charge for it, and hosting, edits and upkeep usually sit on top. You get a team, but you also get a support queue and a quote for every small change. Overkill for most one-van operations.
  • A managed website. This is what I do: managed websites. A flat monthly fee. I design it, build it, host it and run it for you. Edits are included. You never need to log into a dashboard or chase an invoice. Built for someone who wants a proper website and the vast benefits having one brings, but does not want to think about it again.

Here is how the four stack up.

How much it really costs, and the bit people forget

Most web designers are cagey about price. I am not going to be. A one-off build from a freelancer or agency runs $1,500 to $5,000 or more up front. Fine, if you have the cash sitting there. But the sticker price is not the whole bill. Here is what gets left off the quote:

  • Hosting. $20 to $100 a month to keep the site online.
  • Maintenance. $100 to $300 a month to keep it updated and secure.
  • Edits. Charged per change. A new number, a price update, a few photos. Each one is a job and a fee.

Add that up over a year and a "cheap" one-off build is not cheap.

Here is my number, in plain terms. $0 up front. $150 a month, flat. That is $1,800 across the 12-month minimum, about the same as a basic one-off build, except hosting, maintenance and every edit are already in it. Once you count the upkeep, my $150/month managed package comes out cheaper than most one-off jobs.

"But do I actually own it?"

This is the question every tradie asks about a monthly website, and it is a fair one.

You have probably heard of the deals where you pay every month, get locked in for years, and own nothing at the end. Some of those run $300 to $500 a month on 24 or 36 month contracts. Miss the fine print and you are stuck.

Mine is not that. $150 a month. A 12-month minimum for me to cover my costs. Not three years. Once that first year is done, the site is yours. Leave before then and you still keep your domain and your design assets, like your logo. You are never held hostage.

Think of it like this; "Owning" a website means hosting it, updating it, fixing it when it breaks, and sorting it when Google changes the rules again. That is a job. You already have one. What you want is the result: a site that gets you found and makes you look legit and most importantly, bring you leads. That is exactly what a managed website gives you. Ownership without the headache.

What a good tradie website actually needs

A tradie website has one job: turn someone Googling on the side of the road into a phone call. Everything on it should earn that call.

  • Click-to-call on every page. Your customer is on their phone standing in a leaking laundry. They should tap your number, not squint for it.
  • A quote request form. That is easy to fill in. Make it hard and they hit the next tradie on the list.
  • Photos of real jobs. Your work, not stock photos. Stock photos tell people you couldn't be bothered.
  • Google reviews on the page. Customers want to know that the person they're hiring comes recommended from others.
  • A page per service and per area. A page for "gutter cleaning in Hillside" beats one page trying to be everything to everyone.
  • Fast to load and easy to use on mobile. Most people find a tradie from their phone. A slow site loses them before it loads.
  • Licence number and ABN, visible. It signals that you're legit and not like one of the countless operators out there giving tradies a bad rap.

The real question is not "how much", it is "how much per job"

Here is the thing about price. A cheap website that never gets found is the most expensive option you can pick. It costs you every job you never knew you missed.

So flip the question. Instead of asking what the site costs. Ask what one job is worth to you. If your average job is $800, one extra job a month more than covers the $150 fee. A bathroom reno or a house rewire covers the cost of the website many times over.

The site does not need to bring you a flood of work. It needs to bring in a few jobs you would not have got otherwise, and it has paid for itself.

Local proof: tradies in Melbourne's west

I am based in Hillside, in Melbourne's west. I build and manage sites for small businesses across Melton, Taylors Lakes, Caroline Springs, Sunshine and Werribee, and right across Melbourne and Australia.

The managed model is not theory. It is how I already work. Corey runs a custom cake business and wanted a proper site without the hassle. We had one chat, he sent photos, and I built and now run it. He drops new photos in a folder and they appear. No dashboards, no invoice for every tweak. See a site I built. Same deal for a tradie.

★★★★★

Leslie made the whole process really easy for me. We had a chat to discuss what I wanted, and the rest was taken care of. The site looks professional and makes it easy for people to see my cakes and get in touch with me. I've also started getting enquiries through the order form which has been awesome. If ever I need something changed, or photos uploaded, I just drop them in the Google drive and it gets sorted. No other involvement from me required.

Tradie website cost FAQs

Yes. Customers Google you before they call, even the ones sent your way by a mate. If they search and find nothing, or find your competitor instead, that job is gone. A website works while you are on the tools.
DIY is cheapest up front. But it costs you 20 hours or more of nights and weekends, and it rarely gets found on Google because the SEO basics get missed. Cheap to start, expensive in time and missed calls.
Yes. Once the 12-month minimum is done, the site is yours. Leave before then and you still keep your domain and any design assets like your logo. No years-long lock-in, no owning nothing at the end.
Most sites go live within 2 to 3 weeks of our first chat, once you have sent me your photos. I do the building. You keep working.
One chat about your business, send me some photos of your jobs, and I build it. That is your whole involvement. After that I host it, run it, and handle every edit for you.
No. I am based in Hillside in Melbourne's west, but I work with tradies and small businesses across Melbourne and all over Australia. It is all handled remotely.
