Corey's Cakes n Moore

Overview

Corey bakes custom cakes and cupcakes from Melton in Melbourne’s West.

His work speaks for itself but he did not have an official, professional home for his business.

He knew he needed a website but didn’t want to deal with the tech.

He wanted a professional site that shows off his cakes and makes ordering simple for his customers.

The challenge

• No home online: Corey had a growing body of work but no single place to point people to.
• Enquiries were scattered: Orders came through DMs with no structure, so the back-and-forth to pin down flavours, sizes and dates ate up his time.
• Custom pricing can be tough to explain: Cakes, cupcakes and bento boxes all price differently by size and layers, and every cake is made to order with a 1–2 week lead time.
• He didn’t want to manage it: Any solution had to need close to zero ongoing effort from him.

What I did

I designed and built a fully responsive, fast site that I manage on Corey’s behalf. I focused on 4 things during this build:

Let the cakes do the selling

For something like cakes, visuals are critical for proof. For this reason, I put the images front and center. Throughout the site, I used images provided by Corey to bolster the message.

Made ordering obvious

Dedicated pages for flavours, cakes, cupcakes and bento boxes. Again, each page has more images relating to the page.

Turned browsers into qualified enquiries

A single, structured order form captures relevant details and send it straight to Corey’s email. Corey is able to send traffic from his socials directly to his order form. He’s now also able to receive requests from any organic traffic he receives.

Kept it hands-off

Corey doesn’t touch the site. When he has new cakes to show or a change to make, he drops the photos in a shared Google Drive folder and I take care of the rest.
